    The Need

In our communities, there are abused and neglected children who live in the shadows of our lives. She may be the quiet girl in your son's class, who had to move homes and change schools three times in the last year. He may be the lonely child at the park who never joins the game.

Every child needs to be treasured, protected and nurtured. Unfortunately, some parents can't—or won't—care for their children. When they neglect or abuse them, someone must step in to ensure the children's safety. That's the job of the Division of Family & Children Services - DFCS, along with the police and the courts.

    Programs and Services

We provide temporary residential placement and care (24/7) for up to 10 girls ages 12 to 17. We provide this in a safe and nurturing environment under the supervision of well-qualified and trained staff. While we are prepared to provide this care for an extended period of time, we understand that our primary responsibility is to provide care until family or other more permanent placement can be provided.

While in our care, children receive assessments, planning, facilitation, case management, and counseling in concert with DFCS all while our staff focuses on making sure our residents receive the required services to meet their safety, personal, health, educational, spiritual, social, and recreational needs.

    Volunteer

Helping a child is extremely rewarding. It's our belief that it is also the moral responsibility of a community to care for local children who, for no fault of their own, are affected by abuse and neglect. Your willingness to give of your time to help local children who are entrusted with our care is invaluable.

We are always busy and are always in need of local support. Our work here at The Open Arms Home for Children requires a steady flow of Volunteers to assist us with fundraising activities, facility maintenance needs, and ongoing assistance within our Enrichment Programs.

  3. December/January Quote

    12/17/2013 - December/January Quote

There are significant reasons in favor of giving to charity now rather than in the long-distance future. Giving communities a helping hand today allows them to continue to be better off in the future, increasing the social rate of return. It is also important to make a public stand and encourage others to give.
